Everyone felt vertigo at some point in their lifetime. However, there are situations when this state arises regularly.
This should be an unequivocal reason to call a doctor, since such a phenomenon can be a symptoms for a number of diseases. The tactics of treating vertigo directly depend on the pathology it accompanies.
Vertigo is not a disease. It is a condition that can be caused by more than 300 causes. The most common are posterior vertigo, inflammation of the vestibular nerve, Manior’s disease, brain blood flow disorders, hearing nerve tumor, changes in the neck tissue, excessive muscle tension, injuries, old age, stress and more.
People with vertigo often describe it as a disturbance in two ways, which are movement around the head or as a loss of orientation in space. Non-specific disorders of balance or false vertigo are characterized by flashing or darkness in the eyes, feeling fullness and pressure in the head and ears and fainting. The most common cause is short-term deficiency or reduced blood flow to the neck and brain.
Positional vertigo is the most common of all and is caused by inadequate movement or head position, moving in bed, moving the head back or lying. It lasts a minute or less or it might be accompanied by rhythmic flickering in the eyes, while the hearing remains preserved.
It might be repeated every few days or so and even after a few months. Inflammation of the vestibular nerve, an attack of severe vertigo lasts for several days and then gradually relaxes within weeks.
Although the cause of the disorder and the site of damage have not yet been proven, most doctors consider it to be an inflammation of the nerve of the vestibular labyrinth of the inner ear.
Manior’s disease is a disorder in the microcirculation in the inner ear. The disease is characterized by sudden feelings of dizziness, which might last from several minutes to several hours.
The attack can be so strong, the patient would need to lie down. This type of vertigo is usually short-lived. It is accompanied by vomiting, nausea, loss of balance, noises, etc. sometimes people might see double.
Tumor of the hearing nerve is characterized by constant vertigo that can be measured. Other signs suggest a tumor include hearing impairment and disorders of the rest of the nerves in the brain.
Home Remedies for Vertigo

They include head movements that force the calcium debris causing vertigo to no longer cause any symptoms. But do them when you are somewhere safe and won’t be driving a vehicle for a while, since they can cause increased dizziness for a short period of time, multiple times.
Epley Maneuver
Start by sitting on a bed. Turn your head 45 degrees towards the side of the affected ear. Quickly lie back, keeping your head turned.
Now, your shoulders should be on the pillow, with your head reclining back. Wait about 30 seconds and turn your head 90 degrees to the side of your affected ear without raising it.
Now your head should be looking 45 degrees towards the affected side. Wait another 30 seconds and turn both your head and body 90 degrees to the side of the affected ear, into the bed. Stay like this for another 30 seconds and finally sit up on the side of the affected ear.
Half Somersault
While kneeling, quickly tip your head upwards and then back. Assume a somersault position with your chin tucked as far inwards as you can and towards your knee.
Turn your head about 45 degrees towards the right shoulder, or the left one if that is the affected ear. Maintain your head at 45 degrees while it is raised to back/shoulder level. After that, raise it to a fully upright position.
Brandt-Daroff Maneuver
Start with a seated and upright position. Move into a lying position on your bed on one side with your nose pointing up at an angle of 45 degrees.
Stay in this position for about half a minute or until your vertigo subsides. Move back to the seated position and do the same on the other side.
Vitamin D
If you are suffering from vertigo and dizziness, you might want to check your vitamin D levels. If vertigo is really an issue caused by a vitamin D deficiency, once you get your levels of this vitamin to normal, your vertigo should sibside.
This process might take up a couple of months, depending on your vitamin D levels. Taking vitamin D supplements is a good way to maintain a normal vitamin D levels and another way is simply being exposed to sunlight.
Ginger
One of the most common natural treatments for vertigo is ginger. It has long been thought that ginger can treat motion sickness and when taken while suffering from vertigo, it can alleviate the feelings of nausea.
You can consume ginger in different forms, ginger tea, ginger ale, ginger capsules or powdered ginger. You can use it both for treatment and as a preventive measure.
Magnesium
Magnesium is an essential mineral for electrolyte balance in the body. If you have a magnesium deficiency, your brain might not receive messages from your other sensory nerves as it is supposed to.
What is more is that your brain interprets messages from your inner ear that there is movement and gravity even when there isn’t any movement. This can cause dizziness and loss of balance.
To alleviate your vertigo, take 500 mg of magnesium supplements every day for a period of one month. You can also consume foods rich in magnesium, such as dark leafy greens and avocados, dried apricots, bananas, almonds, cashews, beans, dried peas, walnuts, soy products and whole grains such as brown rice and millet.

Pericardium Point (P6)
Acupressure Pericardium 6 point is very helpful to get relief from vertigo. You can easily find this point on your wrist between the two tendons.
Once you locate this pressure point on your wrist, gently apply pressure on it for a few moments. Then stimulate the same point on the other hand.
By regularly stimulating these pressure points, you will get relief from different issues, such as vertigo, anxiety, nausea, wrist pain, dizziness, apoplexy, depression and chest congestion.
Governing Vessel Point (GV26)
This acupressure point has a very important role in treating problems like vertigo, dizziness and fainting. You can find this point between the upper lip and nose.
When you find the governing vessel point, put your finger on the point and firmly press it for one to two minutes. Regularly applying pressure on this point will help you in dealing with problems such as cramps, dizziness, fainting, vertigo, epilepsy, spinal pain, etc.
Gall Bladder 20 And 21 (GB20 and GB21)
These acupressure points are very popular for relieving stress and nervousness. You can find the GB20 point at the base of the skull.
It is underneath the skill bone, in the gap on both sides of the neck. GB21 point is located on the backside of the shoulders, midway between the shoulder and the base of the neck.
Once you find these points, apply firm pressure on both side simultaneously with your thumbs for a couple of minutes. Applying pressure on these points regularly will help you to relieve yourself of mental stress, nervousness, sleeping disorder, migraines, vertigo, dizziness, irritability, etc.
Hydrogen Peroxide
Another very efficient home remedy for vertigo is hydrogen peroxide, which can help you to get rid of organisms by oxidation. Hydrogen peroxide is usually used to treat ear infections and eliminating wax from the inner ear.
It is consider that peroxide in the ear treats vertigo by loosening and re-positioning the stones lodged in the inner ear canal. Apply hydrogen peroxide on a clean cotton ball until it is soaked and lay down on your side.
Next, squeeze out the hydrogen peroxide from the cotton ball directly into the ear canal. Stay on your side for at least 5 minutes before sitting up. Switch sides and repeat the same process for the other ear.
You will hear some popping sounds while you do this and when the popping stops, you can get up.
Keep Yourself Hydrated
Not being hydrated enough can cause dizziness which is a prominent symptom of vertigo. It is absolutely necessary to stay hydrated in order to prevent vertigo and drink water as soon as possible if you feel dizzy.
If you are already feeling dizzy, don’t gulp down a lot of water at once, but rather take small and frequent sips of water. Continue to drink water in short intervals until you feel hydrated. Always drink 8 to 10 glasses of water per day.
Additional Tips
Sometimes you might feel dizzy as a result of insufficient oxygen due to improper breathing. Do some deep breathing exercises to eliminate the vertigo and dizziness.
